NewViews 2.20 - Service Pack 2
Released - February 28, 2011
What's New
New command line option
- Some users reported printing problems with the new, faster template print code.
Many users create custom templates, and even though all QW Page release templates were tested,
it was impossible to test all user created templates.
With 2.20 service pack 2 the default behavior is to run with the older, slower print code, for now.
The faster print from 2.20 service pack 1 can be selected by using the command line argument
-template_print_speedup
See NV2 Program Group for more on running NewViews with command line control switches.
Please try your templates with the faster printing turned on and report any problems to Q.W. Page.
Note: If you are using a version of Microsoft ExcelŽ prior to 2007 (version 12) you may not
notice a change in performance no matter what you do.
Problem / Bug Fixes
- Payroll will process payruns for Nova Scotia for 2009.

NewViews 2.20 - Service Pack 1
Released - February 22, 2011
What's New
Important Performance Fix
- There was a significant performance problem when working with transactions.
Recording (i.e. committing) transactions that contained a large number of distribution items
was unreasonably slow. This occurred because in-house diagnostics were turned on and
inadvertently
left on. This problem started with version 2.18.0 released in early September 2010 and should
explain performance problems that began after that date.
- Performance improvement when printing templated documents
If you upgraded to Microsoft ExcelŽ 2007 (version 12) or 2010 (version 14) from a prior version
you may have experienced a substantial performance slow down.
Excel 2007 increased the maximum
number of rows per worksheet from 65,536 to over 1 million,
and the number of columns from 256 (IV) to 16,384 (XFD).
Apparently, certain aspects of Excel's programmer interface slowed down significantly.
This release works around the problem and templated printing should run between 1.5 and 6 times
faster, depending on the complexity of the template.
- Specify the debit/credit flow to report on T5 slips
You can now select the flow (i.e. debits or credits) when printing and/or e-filing T5 slips
and/or summaries. Selecting amounts to report needed to be more general, and now using the
account's normal balance, the debit/credit posting type and the tag it should be possible to
manage all cases.

Problem / Bug Fixes
- Importing books from DOS NewViews with employees would cause an error;
Could not change field ".paycodes"
Invalid T4A box "22", T4A box must be one of "018" "020" "022" "024", etc.
Some existing NewViews application databases may still have old style 2 character T4A box numbers.
This release will, when opening an application database, find and prepend a 0 (zero) to all
existing T4A box numbers.
- The Print Account Ledgers command caused an error if no printing template was selected.
- The Print T4 Summary command caused an error if no printing template was selected when
destination was set to file_xml.
- Missing edit assist (i.e. [F3]) to select the For the Year Ended date for T4 and T4A slip printing.
- T5 slip box numbers 25 and 26 were not calculated based on the amount in box 24.
- T4A slips were printing the filer's business number on the recipient's copy.
- T4 slips were summing several boxes to Box 14 that should have been excluded. The list of boxes
included in Box 14 are: 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, and 84.
- T4 slips filed via XML were not including Box 55 and Box 56.

NewViews 2.19 - Service Pack 3
Released - December 29, 2010
What's New
January 2011 USA Payroll
Political turmoil relating to taxes and a "just-in-time" delivery attitude on the part of legislators
and bureaucrats makes providing timely payroll releases a challenge.
Therefore, we expect a version 2.20 release.
As of December 29, 2010 Publication 15 (Circular E), Employer's Tax Guide is not available.
This provisional 2011 USA payroll is based on Notice 1036.
For 2011, the employee tax rate for social security is 4.2%.
The employer tax rate for social security remains unchanged at 6.2%.
- Service Pack 2.19.3
This release includes US payroll processing for federal taxes and 11 of the states that have released
final specifications. These include; California, Colorado, Hawaii, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota,
North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island and New York City. 24 states confirmed no changes for 2011.
Shown below is the USA Payroll, Advanced, Payroll Settings, Employer Social Security Contribution Rate setting. The value 1.476190476 converts the .042 employee rate to .062 for the employer.

- Version 2.20
This release, expected the first or second week of January 2011, will hopefully incorporate finalized specifications for Canada and USA.
Canadian users will also be able to print and/or e-file T4's, T4A's, T5's and T5018's.

New Views 2.19 - Service Pack 2
Released - December 21, 2010
What's New
January 2011 Canadian Payroll
Political turmoil relating to taxes and a "just-in-time" delivery attitude on the part of legislators
and bureaucrats makes providing timely payroll releases a challenge.
Therefore, we expect an additional version 2.19 service pack, followed by a version 2.20 release.
- Service Pack 2.19.2
This release includes Canadian payroll processing respecting the Draft release of T2147.
- Service Pack 2.19.3
This release, expected the last week of December 2010, will include USA payroll processing for federal
taxes and approximately two thirds of the states that have released final specifications.
- Service Pack 2.20
This release, expected the first or second week of January 2011, will hopefully incorporate finalized
specifications for Canada and USA.
Canadian users will also be able to print and/or e-file T4's, T4A's, T5's and T5018's.
Problem / Bug Fixes
-
Interest calculations (Tools/Charge Interest) did not respect the normal balance of an account.
This release fixes the problem.
-
An empty begin date for interest calculations was not allowed, which prohibited perpetual balance
calculations.
This release fixes the problem.
-
Account statements can be printed for any type of account, including total accounts. However,
branch folders in your account hierarchy, which can be viewed as automatic "total" accounts, were
accidentally prohibited (i.e. it was an error to attempt to print a statement for a branch folder).
This release fixes the problem.
-
The confirm prompt for server conversion could not handle enough databases.
When a server offered too many application databases the confirm dialog for their conversion could
not display all of them and its buttons were not visible.
This version lists the databases in the help.
So you have the list of server application databases that are about to be converted, and
afterward, the log of which conversions succeeded or failed, in the help. Not only is the help
scrollable, but it can also be printed.

New Views 2.19 - Service Pack 1
Released - November 24, 2010
Behavior Changes
- Print>Account
Ledgers>Advanced can now do closed debits,
open debits, closed credits or open credits.
- Changes to purchase
transactions made in version 2.19.0 were
reported as bugs. This release has the same
"bugs".
The problem, in a nutshell, is
reconciling what two (or more) computer programs
think the tax should be. Also stir into this mix
rebate rates that aren't 100%, and the various
one-off exceptions, and chaos reigns.
Version 2.18 (and prior) let you edit the tax
calculated, and the item total updated. This
resulted in invoices with a total that differed
from the vendor's original invoice.
In version 2.19 it was decided that
source document compatibility should be the
rule. When you edit the tax calculated, the item
amount is updated and the item total is
unchanged. This guarantees that you aren't
wasting time reconciling with your vendors.
Minor variances (typically pennies) to
your asset/expense debits and tax payable
credits are better than the alternative.
Tip: When you add a purchase invoice item,
just enter the items total. The original item
amount and taxes are broken out for you.
Normally, it should not be necessary to edit the
taxes.
To speed up data entry, you can
move the item total column to the left. Position
on it, hold down the [Ctrl] key and press
[Left Arrow] as many times as you like.
- Many users created
tables of accounts with dozens of accidental
columns. For example, a command to
View>Analysis>New Column>Actual Minus Budget
creates three columns at the right side of the
table. Or a View>Analysis>Multiple Column
Setup command configured for one year with
daily resolution creates 365 or 366 columns. If
your screen was too narrow to see these columns
you might not have noticed them, and you may
have executed the command a few times in
frustration.
If you have tables with
accidental columns performance may suffer,
especially if you are logged into a remote
server.
In this version, after columns
are appended to the right side of a table, the
window is shifted right to the end, and the
cursor is placed in the last new column. This
should help prevent the creation of new
accidents. As for any existing accidents, you
will be prompted to clean them up as you bump
into them.
(i.e. when you navigate to a view of a
table that has more than 25 numeric columns, you
will be notified). If the columns are
intentional you can disable the notice. If the
columns are accidental you should delete them.

Problem / Bug Fixes
- In many cases the
running balance column of
Print>Account>Ledgers was incorrect.
This release fixes the problem.
- Editing tax amounts on a
purchase invoice detail item auto edits the
invoice item amount (i.e. once the item total
has a value, the item is "pinned" on that
total). Auto changes to the item amount did not
update the rate.
This release fixes the
problem.
- Inventory removal with
average costing had a bug when the
positive/negative signs of the inventory account
quantity and dollar balance were opposite.
This release fixes the problem. If have
inventory accounts with "wonky" rates for the
credits to remove inventory, you can use
Tools>Fill Column to correct the problem.

NewViews 2.19
Released - October 29, 2010
This is a version change, not just a service
pack. The service pack number is reset to zero.
After installing this version, each workstation,
server, or application database will be
automatically processed the first time you open it.
You will be asked for confirmation before any
processing is performed, and as a precaution, a
backup is made automatically before each conversion.
What's New
- Enhanced Open View Begin
Balance Options
Enhanced options to set
the open balance on the Open View of ledgers.
- Print Statements from
Vendor Accounts
Account Statements can
now be printed from all account types.
- Updated Purchase Journal
Processing
Updated tax processing
behavior for purchase transactions with non 100%
tax rebate settings.
- Added new payroll
printing templates
Added several new
plain paper payroll printing templates.
- Releve1_English.xls
- Releve1_Frech.xls
- T4_2009_pdf.xls
- T4_2010_pdf.xls
- W2_Info_slip_2009.xls
- W2_Info_slip_2010_Employees.xls
- W2_Info_slip_2010_Employers.xls
These templates are cloned versions of the
current government pdf forms. These printing
templates are intended to be printed to plain
8˝" by 11" white paper.
- Added sum columns to
account tables
The View>Analysis>New
Column command for account tables was
missing the "Sum" option to sum two columns.
This release adds this capability.
- Email html file in a
message body
Email can be slow to
generate and send, with a Microsoft Word mail
merge operation, followed by pdf file creation
and attachment. This version allows you to send
an html file in the message body, bypassing most
of the time consuming steps. It's great for
"flyers" and broadcast style emails that don't
require recipient specific information or
attachments.
- Added a new check
operation to database utilities
On
several occasions incorrect object paths were
detected, so this check was added to the
database utilities. In addition, a
Repair>Object Paths menu command was added
to database utilities to fix the detected
problems.

Behavior Changes
- The "Take Next
Reference" prompt that appears when you press
[F3] in the transaction reference column has
been updated to display the reference number
that will be taken. (It's a quick and easy way
to lookup a journals next reference number
without navigating to the correct view of the
journal)
- Title bars of (green)
account ledger tables now display more
information about the items presented. Prior
versions displayed the index (which identified
the sort order and items selected). This version
also displays the Tag and, if necessary the
Begin and End dates. Also displayed is the
opening balance control option (when open items
are selected).
- Purchase Journal
Transactions will now allow tax overrides when
rebates are non 100%.

Problem / Bug Fixes
- Version 2.18 included a
change to how opening balances are determined,
when open items are displayed. It was
insufficient, and caused some unintended
consequences. For example, bank reconcile views
were displaying the wrong running balance for
open (unreconciled) items.
This release
fixes the problem, and provides greater control
over the opening balance of a list of open
items.
- Conversion from 2.09
directly to 2.18 could fail.
Version
2.18 introduced a minor incompatibility with
version 2.09 that was corrected in this release.
It was only the explicit conversion directly
from 2.09 to 2.18 that had the problem corrected
in this release.
- View>Analysis>New
Column>Foreign Exchange Accounts menu item
was dropped when new 2.18 workstations where
created.
This release fixes the problem.
- Printing Additional
Info string and date fields on Checks, AP
Checks and Statements caused a bug.
This
release fixes the problem.
- In some circumstances,
[F2] (go to any account) caused a bug
when folders are hidden.
This release
fixes the problem.
